Things to Do in New York in August

New York in August tends to be at its most beautiful time to visit. Whether you’re here touring with your best group of girls, or you’re a couple of honeymooners in love, the city has a lot to offer. There’s never a boring minute in NYC, and we’ve compiled a little list of things you could do here in sunny August.

Go to the Brooklyn Music Festival

It might be younger than the established music festivals in New York, but in the four years the Brooklyn Music Festival has been held on Governors Island, it’s left its mark. Presenting the freshest beats in hip-hop, indie pop and indie rock, alternative rock, funk and house music, it’s gotten to be one of August’s most popular events in NYC. It’s not just the brilliant music that draws in the crowd – some credit should also go to the amazing food stalls and art supplied liberally peppering the event. Oh, and the best part is that you’ll be supporting a great cause – part of your ticket fee goes to a charity working against domestic violence. Dance it up and have a swell time!

Bollywood Boulevard – A Journey Through Hindi Cinema

New York City’s chockful of fancy free events, and being die-hard fans of Bollywood ourselves, we just can’t miss this one! Bollywood Boulevard showcases the artistry behind the production of Hindi films, and promises live music, dancing and stage shows extravagant enough to be worthy of the industry. Not only will you glean more knowledge about the world’s largest film industry in terms of production, but you’ll also see how those old black and white movies were produced, as well as how big blockbusters like Om Shanti Om are produced, shot and released. It’s going to a colorful and informative event. Don’t miss it, because we definitely won’t!

Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island

Even more dancing! If you want to jive the night away with your significant other or your gal pals, head over to the Jazz Age Lawn Party on August 25. For lovers of jazz music and dancing, there’s no better summer party. It’ll be held on Governors Island in the open air, and it’s one of NYC’s August highlights for good reason! The excellent weather plus the balmy ambience of Governor’s Island should combine to make for the most happening event on your tour! It’s a 21+ event, however, so make sure you get your ID along. Buy the tickets in advance because they’re sure to sell out in no time at all!

Relax and Sunbathe in Central Park

Going to New York without visiting Central Park should be made a federal crime, and I stand by those words. NYC’s largest manmade park is incredibly huge, with numerous trees to provide welcome shade in the hot summer months. It has a number of lovely spots to simply relax and soak up the sunrays. Or you could pack a romantic picnic, or take a walk.
