What to do in NYC in March
As the cold starts to fade, NYC enjoys a bit of a warm spell in March. The relatively balmier temperatures make the city particularly enjoyable this month. Here are some of the things you could do in NYC in March.
Visit Brooklyn Flea at Crown Heights
Brooklyn is the place for tourists to get that authentic New York experience, and nowhere exemplifies NY culture better than the flea markets. As the weather gets warmer, the Brooklyn Flea Market opens to provide the greatest vintage bargains known to humanity.
On Saturday and Sunday, you’ll find vendors selling all sorts of items from 10 am to 6 pm. For the very best deals, head to the market before noon, or you’ll find yourself jostling for space among the busy crowds.
Walk in Central Park
The thawing weather makes walks through Central Park quite special in March (even if it’s snowing!) Start on Fifth Avenue near the Plaza Hotel and work your way through. Or you could see more of the Park by starting in Harlem and walking down towards Midtown.
Ice skate in one of NYC’s most famous rinks
March could be the last time in the year you can safely skate on one of NYC’s famous ice rinks. You could visit the Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center. You can also go to Central Park’s Wollman Rink, a spectacular place to get your blades on.
Visit The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden
From the 23rd of February to the 28th of April, the New York Botanical Garden hosts the impressive Orchid Show in a glorious greenhouse. Visitors get to admire up close the fantastic blooming orchids, which adhere to a central theme.
The theme last year was “Thailand”, and featured scores of exotic flowers. Make it a point to marvel at the lush plants during your trip!
Take part in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade
March 16th is St. Patrick’s Day, a great day to celebrate whether you’re Irish or not! One of New York City’s oldest parades, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade sees more than seven hundred thousand people every year! It generally starts at 11 am, from 44th Street and 5th Avenue, and continues to the north of Central Park before turning east on 86th Street. It finally ends on Third Avenue.
Take part in the United Airlines Half Marathon
Or just watch it! On the 17th of March, one of NYC’s most popular races comes into action. Runners begin in Brooklyn, and run over Manhattan Bridge towards Central Park. It starts at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park at 7:30 am.
Macy’s Flower Show
March 24th officially starts the spring season in March with the Macy’s Flower Show. Continuing until April 27th, it’s hosted at Macy’s Department stores, and makes for a wonderful shopping experience. It’s a great reminder than spring has sprung!
