Top 5 Things to Do in NYC with the Kids

Traveling with little kids can be a challenging endeavor. Luckily, there’s no dearth of child-friendly activities in New York City! These are our Top 5 Things to Do in NYC with the Kids.

Explore Central Park

A seminal New York attraction, Central Park is where New Yorkers and tourists gather for a brief respite from NYC’s fast paced life and terrible traffic. It’s also a great place to let your kids run around or ride bikes along the flat and safe cycling path, which is six miles long.

You can grab a map of the Park at the entrance and just wander around together! Some of the places you can visit at Central Park with your kids include Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Fountain, Gapstow Bridge, the Alice in Wonderland sculpture, Loeb Boathouse and The Great Lawn. Don’t forget to pack a picnic for Sheep Meadow!

The most kid-friendly attractions? The amusement park’s great, as well as the carousel, Egyptian themed playground and the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre! And of course, you should definitely visit the zoo. It may not have the most exotic of animals your kids will love seeing the colorful frogs and birds, as well as the cute penguins.

Climb the Empire State Building

Standing on top of the Empire State Building with your kids is an incredible experience. Whether you go during the day, in the evening or at sunset, it remains a popular and fun attraction. Just make sure you plan in advance so you’re not stuck in long wait times with the kids! You can buy your tickets online to avoid long queues.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

The iconic Brooklyn Bridge is a great place to take your children for a leisurely stroll. You can either walk or bike here, on the designated pedestrian or cycling path, and watch the gorgeous views of Brooklyn and Manhattan go by. However, it’s important to remember that it can get cold on the bridge, even in March, so make sure you and the kids are dressed appropriately.

Here’s a tip: walk to Brooklyn from Manhattan to reach the DUMBO, or Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass neighborhood. At DUMBO, the kids can enjoy rides on Jane’s Carousel, get ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and get some world class pizza from Grimaldi’s or Juliana’s.

Walk The High Line

Chelsea’s High Line is one of the coolest concepts in New York City – it’s an old elevated train line that was converted into a walkway for pedestrians, and it offers some great street views and architecture. You can even find seating there if you get tired. Plus, in the summer, it starts weekly drop-in workshops for children, for free!

Get on the Ride

The Ride is one of New York City’s more unique attractions. It’s a bus worth millions, with theater-style seats that face a sidewalk with street performers to entertain you as you ride along. It’s included in the New York Sightseeing Pass.

Your kids are sure to have a blast with these!
